Soccer Win Only Bright Spot in Black Weekend

Some people go for horseshoes, others four-leaf clovers and rabbitt paws, but after Saturday the Crimson soccer team probably will put its trust in rule books. Two penalty kicks gave the Varsity soccer team its sixth victory of the fall season as Princeton fell victim 2 to 1 Saturday on the Business School Field.

In the second overtime period with the score at 1 to 1 the referee called a back charging penalty area and Phil Potter scored the awarded free kick for the winning margin.

After the game was over Coach MacDonald said he though his team had just won over the best team they'd met this year.

Potter also scored the first Crimson goal of the game when the referee called a tripping penalty on left wing Willy Dawson. Dawson would have scored, however, even if the referee had not called the foul. Princeton got the equalizer five minutes later when Ernie Savage hooked in a goal from center-forward.

At this point a light rain began to fall, the howling wind accelerated and for the rest of the contest both teams had to fight elements as well as opponents to handle the ball.
