"Bringing the Henry Wallace program to Harvard" and supporting Wallace for President in '48, 40 members of the Committee for Wallace met for the first time yesterday afternoon at Phillips Brooks House, adopted a four-point program for action, and took steps toward acquiring a charter as a recognized student activity.
Backing Kenneth Hughes and Rembert Stokes in the Cambridge elections as proponents of Wallace's ideas, the group heard acting chairman Emmanuel Margolis 3PA, propose as possible activities open educational hearings on controversial topics, supporting Wallace delegates to the Democratic conventions and contact with similar organizations in other colleges.
A volunteer steering committee which will draw up a prospectus for the organization and present a constitution to the membership was chosen at yesterday's meeting. The committee will also pick a chairman for the group.
Spokesmen for the committee expressed hope that the large turnout at Wallace's AVC forum talk early this month augured high membership and success for their unit.
