Numerous tackles of all shapes and sizes cavorted at Soldiers Field yesterday, but some of them, like Chet Pierce and large Verne Miller, were unfit for action tomorrow. At the end of the practice, Dick Harlow was wondering how long the others would last against the Big Gree. "I'm not exactly up in the clouds," was Dick's comment.
With the tackle squad reduced to carbon copy strength, only Dean Markham and Johu Sorynski appear ready to plug the gap left by the injuries to Pierce and his running mate, Howie Houston.
If either of them gets hurt tomorrow, Harlow will have to use the still-shaky Nick Rodis, scrape the bottom of the Varsity barrel, and-or dip down into the Jayvee pool. Doug Bradlee and Rocky Stone will probably have ample opportunity to show their talent against the Indian tackles.
No Contact Work
Yesterday's practice drills shied away from contact, again putting emphasis on signal coordination, defense against Dartmouth plays as run by the Freshmen, and pass offense, which is expected to be given full throttle tomorrow.
The Big Green entourage of coaches, trainers, managers and 34 players will hit town today, bedding down tonight at the Hotel Bellevue. The Indians will work out briefly in the Stadium this afternoon.
Pensaville Doubtful Starter
Meanwhile, the Associated Press reported that neither Connie Pensavalle nor Larry Perry, both left halfbacks, are expected to see much service tomorrow for Dartmouth.
