Rhode Island, BU Harriers Outrun Varsity, 18-58-67

With national AAU cross country champion Bob Black leading the way, Rhode Island State ran away from Boston University and the Varsity yesterday over the 4 1/4 mile Franklin Park course, 18 to 58 to 67.

In spread-eagling the field of 36, Black negotiated the distance in 21 minutes, 18 8-10 seconds. He was followed by the rest of the Rhode Island team, a seven-man block broken only by Ted Woods, of B.U., who came up fast over the last half mile to finish fourth.

Cogan Paces Crimson

John Cogan, the first Crimson harrier to finish, wound up tenth, Bill Baker was eleventh, and Captain Huna Rosenfeld was twelfth. Ardan Albee--nineteenth--and John Anderson--twenty first--completed the Varsity scoring.

The Crimson Freshmen came much closer, but also lost out to B.U. and Rhode Island 44 to 42 to 39. John Pankey turned in another good performance, finishing fourth with a time of 17 minutes, 27 seconds, and Dick White grabbed fifth place. Pankey was elected captain of the '51 team following the meet.
