Indiana Psychologist Wins William James Chair for Next Year

Burrhus Frederick Skinner, professor of Psychology at Indiana University and noted experimental psychologist, will take over the William James lectureship next September, succeeding, among others, the English philosopher Bertrand Russell, who occupied the post in 1940-1941, the University announced last week.

A graduate of Hamilton College, Professor Skinner received his M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard in 1930 and 1931. Before leaving for the University of Minnesota in 1936, he served at Harvard as a Research Fellow with the National Research Council and a Junior Fellow of the Society of Follows.

Medical School Appointments

Five appointments to the Medical School teaching staff, all effective during the current academic year, were announced during the recess.

The appointments follow:

Grete L. Bibring, associate in Psychiatry; Maxwell Bovarnick '30, assistant professor of Bacteriology and Immunology; Seymour J. Gray, assistant professor of Medicine; Marian C. Putnam, lecturer on Psychiatry; DeWitt Stettin, Jr. '30, assistant professor of Medicine.
