HUA Election Will Feature No Referenda or Survey Questions
Plans for a program of inter-House debates, sponsored by the Debate Council, were outlined yesterday by Robert M. Beren '47, council president.
Beren revealed that a tentative schedule for the contests had been drawn up by a committee composed of one representative from each of the eight Houses, and four members of the Debate Council. The first round will start early in February. "There will probably be two contests each week from then on, or as long as the student body shows interest," he said.
The contests will be open to all residents of the Houses, Beren added, emphasizing that the whole project was "an attempt to foster student interest in debating." No members of the Debate council will be allowed to participate, although they may act as chairmen of the discussions. Judges will usually be residents of the two Houses competing.
