AVC Will Choose State Convention Members Tonight

Set to play a leading role in the Massachusetts State convention of the American Veterans Committee this weekend the University's AVC chapter will hold a short meeting for the election of delegates tonight at 7:30 o'clock in Emerson D. Reginald Zalles 2G, chairman of the 750-man unit announced yesterday, that the vote will be the first order of business and that, in view of the large number of nominees for the contingent of 15, there will be no time-consuming speeches in behalf of candidates.

Delegates-elect are scheduled to meet with representative of more than 50 AVC chapters in the Bay State Saturday at the Old South Meeting Mouse. Heading the list of featured speakers is Charles G. Bolte, national chairman of the organization and recently-named Rhodes Scholar.

Latest among AVC proposed aids to the student-veteran is a plan calling for the Veterans Administration to adopt a new decentralized system, similar to the Army's payroll setup which would bring about more prompt payment of subsistence allowances. Chat Patterson. AVC national legislative representative. has recommended that a qualified disbursing officer be appointed to make payments of allowances directly to student-veterans.

Then, he asserts, payroll lists would be prepared monthly from the records of the local VA offices; the disbursing officer would need to receive a single check from the Treasury covering the entire payroll: and the officer would make cash payments, as indicated on the payroll.
