Lord Lindsay of Birker, Master of Balliol College, Oxford University, a distinguished political scientist whom Professor William Y. Elliott calls "the most powerful philosopher of Democracy today," will lecture next Monday in Emerson D on "Eastern and Western Conceptions of Democracy."
Lord Lindsay was elevated to the peerage this year as a spokesman for the Labor Party in the House of Lords.
He is visiting this country on a lecture tour of several colleges, and will arrive in Cambridge on Sunday. Elliott, who will preside at the meeting Monday night, said that although Emerson D usually was large enough to accommodate the audience for a visiting lecturer, it might be necessary to fall back on the New Lecture Hall if the crowd is too large.
