On Nov. 3, 1949, (Syracuse) University received a grant of $1.5 million dollars form the estate of the late Mary Margaret Shaw. The Daily Orange gave the story an eight-column banner headline in its boldest type with a story running two columns on the front page.

Last week the Harvard Crimson, Harvard university's paper, reported that $2 million was left to that university by the Hettle Green estate. This story was published with a one-column head and a one-column story on the front page.

One consoling journalistic thought: the Crimson might have run its story in the notice column. --From the Syracuse Dally Orange   March 2, 1951
