Vets Who Served Under 6 Months Will Be Recalled

Reclassification of all 1-C veterans who have not served six or more months on active duty since September, 1940, exclusive of time served in military educational programs, will begin soon at Draft Board 47, the "Harvard" draft board, Mary E. Cabral, a member of the board, said yesterday.

It is expected that men who will be hit hardest by the reclassification will be veterans of such programs as ASTP and NROTC who have not put in the required six months of service outside their college work. Men who served overseas but whose service totals less than six months are also eligible for reclassification.

Except for students in certain branches of medicine, the policy of postponing induction into the armed services to allow students to finish a term or quarter will be discontinued, Miss Cabral said.

Perhaps the first University man to be hit by the new regulations, which were announced two weeks ago by Major General Lewis B. Hershey, draft chieftain, was an unidentified Brooklynite who, Miss Cabral said, has been called for reclassification by his local board because his active service in the Army was less than six months.
