Campbell Says More Food Could Be Given

No indication of how much money the student body can raise or wishes to raise for the purchase of food for needy students abroad was given by the $3,400 collected by the Food Relief Committee in the spring term, according to Richard D. Campbell, Jr. '48, chairman of the committee.

During the three and one-half week food economy program in the dining halls, the savings totaled 87 cents per man, enough to buy 5,220 calories of food, substantially enough to supplement the diet of a European student for about three days.

According to a standard set at 2,500 calories per day, the sum of $3,400 was sufficient to feed 1,000 students for ten days, Campbell revealed yesterday in his report to the Student Council. This was deemed "a good beginning, but not nearly as much as the student body is able to do."
