Rain cancelled the deciding game of the Intramural Baseball Tournament between Adams and Dudley on three different afternoon during the past two weeks, and impending final exams forced Adolph Samborski, director of Intramural Athletics, to call a tie between the two finalists.
Dudley went through the regular season and the tournament undefeated, led by pitchers Bob Curley and Marty Greeley and sluggers Ed Haley and Dave Bishop. The Gold Coasters had difficulty fielding a regulation sized team during the initial weeks of the campaign, but Coach Dave O'Mara tapped the Varsity resources in his House to come through with a winning nine in the tournament, sparked by hurler Frank Holt who registered two victories against no losses.
Samborski thought the tournament "a good idea," adding that since it worked so well, although spoiled by the rainy season, it will be continued in following years. He was especially enthusiastic about, the participation of Varsity players in the competition, and plans a similar tournament after the regular House basketball season this winter.
"I wish we had started it sooner," said Samborski. "It was a fitting climax to the summer schedule."
