Sub-Committee Slated to Draft Probe's Revised Constitution During Inter-Term Vacations

Completing its study of and revision recommendations for the present Student Council Constitution, the committee for investigation of Student Council activities ended another four-hour session in the Leverett House Common Room last Tuesday evening.

Deploring the student body's lack of contact with the Student Council and its activities, the comittee decided to incorporate an entirely new article in the revised constitution:

"It shall be the duty of the Student Council to keep the student body informed of its actions" by (1) releasing annual reports, including complete and detailed financial reports, to recognized undergraduate publications and by posting these reports on all official bulletin boards, and (2) "by releasing to recognized undergraduate publications reports of every meeting and making available the minutes to anyone upon request."

Before revising Council powers relative to the expenditure of student-contributed funds, it was decided that the activities of Phillips Brooks House, which receives 45 per cent of the Council funds yearly, should be investigated. Joseph H. Sharlitt '45, the CRIMSON's representative on the committee, was assigned to report on this spending phase at the next committee meeting.

A tentative procedure was adopted whereby the committee, at its meeting tonight in Leverett House, will elect a sub-committee to draft the new constitution during the vacation between terms. The full committee will meet immediately after the start of the fall term to approve their work.

After submitting the constitution to Dean Hanford for the University's approval, the Student Council will be given the opportunity of calling for a student body vote on it.
