Adams and Kirkland Win Contests In First Round of Baseball Finals

Adams and Kirkland survived the first round of the Intramuray. Baseball Tournament yesterday afternoon as four teams clashed in the initial day of play on the Varsity and Freshman diamonds. Frank Holt pitched the Gold Coasters to an extra-inning, 3 to 2 victory over a game Leverett aggregation. The Bunnies tied the score 2 to 2 in the first of the sixth on Gordy Grant's long double to center, and put men on second and third in the seventh with none out.

Holt Fans Three

Holt bore down at this point and registered three of his ten strikeouts to end the last Bunny threat of the day. His mates went on the win in the eighth, when Bill Richardson's towering double to left field scored the deciding run from second base.

Tight fielding and few hits marked the contest, as Adams' Varsity-studded infield was matched by the stellar play at shortstop of Bunny Paul Fulton. Seyindur Croft went the distance on the mound for the losers and allowed only four hits, while both hurlers gave up but one walk apiece.

On the Varsity field, Kirkland defeated Winthrop 8 to 4 in a fast six and one half inning game marked by few extra-base hits, numerous bases on balls, and some loose defensive play in the field. Kirkland scored their runs easily, as Puritan hurler Bill McAuliffe had trouble finding the big curve ball he used his last time out to set down Lowell with two hits.

Varsity pitcher "Carl" Hubbell went the route for the victors, while teammate James Robb led the sluggors with a perfect day at the plute. Innings  1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8  r  h  e Leverett  0  0  0  0  0  2  0  0  2  6  3 Adams  0  0  1  1  0  0  0  1  3  4  2
