Fair Is Named Dean of Graduate Engineering

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Gordon Maskew Fair will become Dean of the Graduate School of Engineering July 1, it was announced late last week by Albert Haertlein, acting dean of the school. The appointment of Fair will fill the vacancy left by the recent retirement of Harold Malcolm Westergaard.

Although Westergaard has left his post as dean he will not become inactive, but will retain the Gordon McKay professorship of Civil Engineering, a chair which he has held since 1936.

Born in the Union of South Africa in 1894, Dean-elect Fair received his S.B. in Berlin. He has been a member of the Harvard Faculty since 1918. In 1921 he served as assistant director of sanitation for the League of Red Cross Societies in Geneva, Swtizerland, after working with the C.E.F. during the first World War.
