Nine Sinks Tufts, 5-2, Loses to Eagles, 4-1

A series of into inning million, appear headed by Hill Fitz's billing, overcame an early Tufts one run lead and gave the Varsity its first win of the season, 5 to 2, at Soldiers Field Tuesday afternoon. Ex-marine Joe Phelas went the route on the mound for the Crimson and kept the visitors to six scattered safties.

First sacker Fitz, who got four for five during the day, was responsible for starting the first rally that brought across the first two runs when he belted a single to right field in the last of the sixth. Pinch hitter Bill Ayres followed him by reaching; first on a boot by the Jumbos' second baseman. Both runners scored when Mal Allen and John Coppinger bagged successive files to right. The first dropped in for a single and the second was misjudged and landed safely for a double. The rally ended, however, when both members of the Crimson battery popped out.

In the next inning Harvard punched across two more runs. Saul Marlaschin singled through third and advanced two bases when Tuft's hurler Bob Kozman threw Don Swegan's sacrifice bunt wildly past first base. Petrillo walked to load the bases.

Fitz came to the plate again and knocked in two runs with a single. Petrillo was run down between second and third and Fitz advanced to second on Ayres again reached on an time at short, and Coppinger the bases, but the inning bounced out, short
