Harold E. "Human Rights and Mechanisms of Government" is the title of the May 7 lecture; on May 8, "Human Rights and National Sovereignty" will be discussed; while the final lecture will deal with "Human Rights and Concurrent Duties--Economic, Social, and Political." All lectures will begin at 8 o'clock in the evening in Sanders Theater and are open to the public.
Duties of the Citizen
Providing for "lectures of the highest distinction" to talk on "essentials of free government and duties of the citizen," the Godkin, Lectures Fund was established in 1903 by friends of Edwin Lawrence Godkin, editor of the New York Evening Post and the Nation, who died in 1902.
Last year's lecturer was Douglas B. Copeland, Australian economist. Other appointments to the lectureship went to Rt. Hon. James Bryce, President Charles W. Eliot, Walter Lippman, Lewis W. Douglas, Heinrich Bruening, Jose Ortega y Gasset, Gunnar Myrdal, Robert Moses, and Charles E. Merriam. The lectures are usually published in book form at a later date.
