Harvard Still On Track To Reach Fossil Fuel-Neutral Status by 2026, Sustainability Report Finds
Augmenting the national scholarship program established by President Conant in 1934, the University yesterday announced the establishment of an undisclosed number of Veteran's National Scholarships to be effective in the summer term.
In doing so the University recognizes the inadequacy of GI Bill benefits, for the Cambridge area, at least. Since the $65 per month allowance does not even cover room and board, veterans have been forced to add to the government stipend from their own pcket.
They will be open to any former member of the armed forces, the American Field Service, or the Merchant Marine in residence two terms since his discharge. Awards will range up to $1300, varying according to individual financial needs.
Ordinarily awarded on a two-term basis, the scholarships will be extended through undergraduate work or even graduate studies in recognition of exceptional ability.
Selection of candidates will be based upon veterans' grades after returning to the College, recommendations of instructors and others in regard to character and intellectual qualifications, and upon extra-curricular activities. Applications must be filed with the Committee on Scholarships by May 11.
