With the Crimson's first post-war regatta against M.I.T. Princeton, and Cornell less than three weeks away, varsity coach Tom Bolles is still experimenting with new combinations in his first three boats.
"The important thing at this point," he said yesterday, "is that we are improving every day. The varsity boats are still not turning in the kind of times we'd like to see, but for an inexperienced crew, the boys are doing satisfactorily."
Rowing yesterday over a 13/4 mile course, Coach Bolles' first boat included several newcomers from the other squads. Bolles emphasized that more changes are likely.
Ross Strokes Crew
Torby Ross, stroke of last year's informal team, continues to pace the varsity. Boat mates Bim Chandler, Lou Bohn, and Barry White all rowed for freshman crews before going into service.
Other varsity men are George Might and Tom Morse, returning from last year's squad, and Mike Scully and Paul Knapland, both making an initial appearance on a Crimson crew.
"Despite the short season," Bolles added, "we should gain a lot of experience as soon as we begin competitive racing. I find that's exactly what we need." He pointed out that the crew has been handicapped by bad weather, and that examinations, as usual, cut into practice time awkwardly.
