Spring hit the Lampoon yesterday afternoon, and by nightfall Lampy found himself with a full-blown beauty contest on his hands, when Billy Rose wired acceptance to the funny magazine's challenge to put up or shut up on his proposition that beautiful girls don't go to college.
And so Saturday afternoon, May 18th, will see Lampy's best college tries pit their etceteras against the and so forths of six of Billy Rose's top showgirls, presumably hot off the Diamond Horseshoe. Seven Boston scribes, named by the New York showman, will rate the dozen girls, who will appear both in evening gowns and bathing suits.
A preliminary contest, to determine the six college finalists, will be held, possibly in the Hasty Pudding Club, on the evening of May 11 and will be open to the public.
Late last night, Lampy was writing letters to girls colleges throughout New England asking for two entrants from each. "However, we will welcome any participants from anywhere," Lampy added.
