220 ALUMNI OFFER HOUSING FOR VETS

In the month following President Conant's February 12 plea for help in locating accommedations for married veterans, the Housing Office has received replies from 220 of the 16,000 alumni within a ten-mile radius of Harvard Square.

Suggestions offered include 39 furnished rooms, 37 homes which the occupants are willing to share, 4 gardeners' cottages, 7 apartments, 6 houses of 10 to 22 rooms, 6 convertible existing structures, and 62 leads on other possible units.

While these results do not offer a solution to the problem, they will reduce the 1,200 unfilled student applications considerably. The Housing office reports, further, that the number of new applications is decreasing at present, although they expect it to rise sharply in June and September.

More progress was made yesterday when Business Manager Aldrich Durant announced that the University has purchased a three-story, wood-frame house at 9 Bow Street to be made available for married students.
