THORNDIKE TO RETURN TO HAA

Fradd Reveals Compulsory Athletics Resume Monday

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Dr. Augustus Thorndike '17 has returned to the staff of Arlie V. Bock, Henry K. Oliver Professor of Hygiene, to take charge of physical training for wounded veterans, and to deal with the athletic injuries.

Fradd announced at the same time that compulsory athletics will be resumed Monday with the usual three hours a week required for all Freshmen and Sophomores. NROTC requirements have been lowered to three days a week instead of the former four or five.

The scrapping of judo classes and the adoption of a daily "apparatus and tumbling" practice are the only changes in opportunities, which include basketball, boxing, wrestling, swimming, and conditioning. The same system of checking-in for credit will be retained. New Freshmen who did not pass the physical efficiency tests (65 or over) will, as usual, be required to sign up for at least six weeks of special exercise classes.
