"As encouraging as could be expected but more encouraging than was expected" was the appraisal of the recently concluded session of the United Nations General Assembly made yesterday by Payson S. Wild, professor of Government and Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

If members of the U.N. continue to show the same willingness to grapple with and not to dodge problems as has been evidenced by events in the last week of the meeting, there is great hope for the future, Wild declared.

Russia's conciliatory attitude towards the end of the conference drew his praise. The policy of the United States, which he described as "friendly but firm," influenced the Russians greatly, he declared. "I have hope," he said, "that it represents a more lasting kind of cooperation."
