Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
NEW YORK, December 12. The 54 nations permanent headquarters committee for the United Nations Assembly voted 33 to 7 last night to accept the offer of John D. Rockefeller, Jr. of an $8,500,000 skyscraper site in Manhattan, as the permanent home of the world organization. The decision now goes to the general assembly for approval.
When the decision of the committee reaches the general assembly, it will require two-thirds approval for ratification, 36 votes then being necessary, if there is full attendance.
The action came only after protest from San Francisco supporters, particularly Australis, against speedy acceptance of an offer which had been before the committee less than two days.
The Unites States spearheaded the drive for the Manhattan location.
