Lamer Gridders Gird for Green Invasion

"They may not have done so well so far, but the boys are doing a great job and improving steadily, and you can look for a good game from them tomorrow." So spoke Henry Lamar yesterday about the Freshman football team which faces the Dartmouth Freshman eleven this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Stadium.

Although the Yardlings lost their first three games, all by narrow margins, their excellent showing last week against Chief Boston's highly touted Jayvees who enjoyed an easy time yesterday defeating Tufts, 13-0, shows they have come a long way since the opening of the season.

Relatively untested this fall, the Dartmouth team is rated by observers as a far hotter than average eleven. In their only game they dropped a close contest to the Yale Freshmen by the score of 13 to 6, the Indian score coming on an 80-yard kick-off runback by their backfield star, Jerry Sarno, voted the outstanding back in Massachusetts last year.

Yardlings Run From T

Depending neither on predominantly ground or passing attack, the Yardlings, running from the T, mix up their plays and try to use as varied an attack as possible. Rain today should hamper the Freshman strategy. Lamar stresses sharp, rugged blocking and savage tackling, and expects his team to make up in fight what it may lack in skill.

After over a month of gifting his huge squad of 115 players down to an A and B squad, Lamar feels he has a strong starting eleven. At the right end slot he will alternate Bob Forsyth with Bob Almy while in the left end position he will start either Pierce Leavitt or tall, rangy Armand Mazzone, probably the best pass receiver on the squad.

The big, heavy line will be bulwarked at the tackle positions by Howie Reed and Doug Bradlee. Bill Hickey will open at the right guard slot while his running mate at the left guard position will be the team captain and probably the best all-around lineman on the team, Dick Guidera. Larry Ward is holding down the starting nomination for center.

Jim Kenary, the best passer on the team, will do the quarterbacking with Don Trimble, a dangerous runner and good pass catcher, at the left half. Al Craft will start in the right halfback slot and Howie Muffle at fullback. Muffle is the team's punter and also a good passer and runner.

Jayvees Beat Tufts, 13-0

In a return engagement with the Tufts Jayvee eleven which they smashed earlier this fall, the Jayvee football team triumphed over Tufts yesterday afternoon by the score of 13 to 0 on the loser's field at Medford.

Coach Chief Boston rested his first-stringers for most of the game but the second and third stringers had the situation well in hand for the whole contest.
