Team play was the feature attraction on the two House gridirons yesterday as Lowell and Eliot battled to a bitter 0 to 0 tie and Dudley, by means of a 60-yard pass and run combination, took a close one from Adams, 7 to 0.
There were no individual stand-outs in the Bellboy-Elephant fracas, with Lowell making consistent gains on the ground and Eliot clicking on short passes. The black-shirt line, however stymied the Mastadon running attack and the Eliot men had to resort to the air route for any substantial gains.
In the first half, Lowell drove into the Elephants' backyard on sterling runs by Austy Lyne, Loring Briggs, Roger Wales, and Herb Allard, but was unable to get beyond the 20. The second half was played on more even terms as Eliot's Tener Eckleberry tossed the pigskin to Dave Abbot and Bob Morgan for their most sizeable chunks of yardage during the afternoon. Neither team was able to further its scoring threats past the 20-yard stripe, although Lowell rolled up more yardage than Eliot.
Dudley Scores
A 20-yard pass from Dudleyite Steve Gilman to Larry McGrath, who raced 40 yards to the goal line, provided the only score of the day and proved to be enough for the Commuters to enter the win column for the first time since they nosed out Leverett in their opening game. Bill Billings ripped off a few long runs for Dudley; but otherwise the Gold Coasters showed sufficient spark to make the game a see-saw affair.
In the only House contest scheduled for this afternoon, the league-leading Kirkland Deacons will be defending their undefeated, untied record against the onslaughts of the Winthrop House eleven.
