Constitution Planners Make Extensive Progress in Parley

Envision Finish of Job Before Thanksgiving in Three-Hour Session, First Since Exams

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Swinging into rapid action after a two-week hour exam layoff, the Student Council Constitution Committee plowed through four important areas in a meeting lasting almost three hours last night. The group emerged not only with a large part of the constitution completed, but also with a definite date for completion of the document and presentation of it to the student body.

With real progress apparent, the Committee saw its way clear to setting Thanksgiving week for the end of its labors and the first of a series of House forums designed to acquaint the undergraduate with the work of the group. Any issues still in dispute at that time will be referred to the student body directly.

Articles Thrashed

Articles II through V were thrashed out at last night's meeting, with the more controversial Article I dealing with membership on the Council, being bypassed for the sake of efficiency.

In its final version of Article II, on meetings, the Committee retained a large part of the same portion of the Constitution written this summer by the investigating group, with an important addition stating that unless specifically excepted by a two-thirds vote of the Council all meetings are to be described to the student body in a complete written report. No substantial changes were made in Articles III, IV, or V from the summer constitution.

To insure as speedy a solution as possible of the most troublesome issues before it, the group named two subcommittees to deal separately with the problem of amendment and ratification and that of membership on the Council.
