Widener Appeal Nets Five Tons of Books

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The campaign for books to replenish devastated libraries in war areas, conducted here from October 21 to 26, has brought in over five tons of books and journals to Widener Library, Frank N. Jones, administrative assistant of the Library and head of the campaign, announced yesterday.

Contributions came from the student body, the faculty, and several departmental groups, which turned over, to the collection, stocks of publications still on hand. Jones said that responses were received from as far away as California, where a retired faculty member sent in copies of his own works.

Since the establishment of the American Book Center, over a year ago, the University has collected for shipment to Washington over 25 tons of high-caliber research matter, he added.
