First woman appointee as faculty member in the history of the University Law School was announced yesterday by Dean Erwin N. Griswold as being Miss Soia Mentschikoff, who will assume her duties next fall instructing a course in Sales.
With the official title of Visiting Professor Law, Miss Mentschikoff plans to inaugurate a now advanced course in Commercial Law in the spring of 1948.
Miss Mentschikoff, Columbia Law School '37, is now engaged in active practice in New York City as a partner in the Wall Street firm of Spence, Hotchkiss, Parker, and Duryes.
For the past several years, she has helped prepare the Commercial Law Code, which is scheduled for publication under the auspices of the American law Institute. In addition, she has served as an associate reporter for Commercial Law Codes of the American Law Code Institute.
Miss Mentachikoff is well known among New England labor leaders and has participates in many of the country's leading labor conferences.
