With the announcement that collections on the current Service Fund pledges had already exceeded $15,000, the Student Council last night voted $2000 as the official undergraduate contribution to the official undergraduate contribution to the Greater Boston Community Fund.
At the same time, the Council allocated an additional $2000 as the first installment of its annual obligations to Phillips Brooks House.
Due to the present uncertain status of the Service Fund and of the demands that may be made upon it, the Community fund donation was voted with the reservation that additions might be forthcoming if the total budget should leave room for a greater sum for local charities.
Individual Donations Still Welcome
The Council passed on the information, however, that the Community Fund office in Weld 28 would continue to welcome individual contributions, particularly from those who have not contributed to the Service Fund, since outside organizations are not allowed to canvass students in University rooms.
Other matters taken up by the Council included a letter form Director of Athletics Bingham promising improvements in the present system with the conclusion:
"I have just seen the chart for the Yale game, and I know that a lot of people are going to be disappointed. The freshman class is in the end zone at one end of the field and the Varsity Club t the other . . . At the present time there are no people on this side of the field except the cheering section, undergraduates and the 'H' section."
