Deacons Widen House Football Lead by Taking Winthrop, 13-0

Kirkland strengthened its grip on first place in the intramural football league last Friday by annexing its fifth straight victory in House competition, downing the cellar-dwelling Winthrop eleven, 13 to 0.

Andy Muldoon was the big gun in the Deacons' latest win, scoring both touchdowns and the extra point. The first tally came in the second period after a sustained drive on the part of the Kirkland forces, culminating in Muldoon's plunge off-tackle from a few yards out.

The second Deacon touchdown came again after a long march, with Muldoon going through the same hole off-tackle, this time 12 yards to pay-dirt. Another plunge by Muldoon added the thirteenth point in the fourth quarter.

This afternoon Winthrop gets another chance to enter the win column when it faces Leverett, which now occupies second place in the league standings.
