Unbeaten Deacons Down Eliot 7-0 As Bunnies Win 12-0 Over Adams

By Robert W. Morgan jr.

Kirkland House unleashed a savage first-half running attack yesterday to drop Eliot from the undefeated ranks 7 to 0, at the same time maintaining its own spotless record with four wins and no losses. Meanwhile, Leverett came fast at the end to down Adams 12 to 0 and go into a tie for second place in the league standings,

Four officials were on hand for the Deacon-Elephant tilt, which was deemed the first "big game" of the campaign, and in most respects, the contest lived up to expectations.

Interceptions Stop Eliot

Led by the line charges of Jerry Glynn, Kirkland rolled up considerable yardage on the ground in the opening stages of the game, but the Mastadon line held in the clutches. A second period pass interception put the Deacons deep in enemy territory, and Glynn's long punt return set up a 25-yard touchdown drive culminating in Joe Kameese's line plunge for the only touchdown.

Pass interceptions told the story in the second half in halting the Mastadon offensive, as Eliot mixed up passes and running plays in an effort to score. With Bob Critchton on the aerial receiving end, and Dave McGiffert and Tener Eckle-berry slicing off some sizeable gains through the line, the Elephants threatened but failed to dent the Deacon goal line.

Loverett Scores on Pass

Neither team threatened in the first half of the Leverett-Adams game, but the Bunnies multiplied their forces in the final stanzas to score twice and win.

Pete Duble grabbed a long pass from Al Staples to set up the first touchdown on a line buck by Dick Warren, and Joe Hurley's 30-yard run set up his own score in the last quarter after Adams lost the ball on a fumble.
