Yardling Booters Shut Out Gov. Dummer 2-0 In Opening Game Win

A slow starting but aggressive Freshman soccer team opened its season yesterday with a neat 2 to 0 shutout victory over Governor Dummer Academy on the Business School Field. Outplayed, the Yardlings rallied and scored in both the third and fourth frames to clinch the first Harvard soccer victory of the current campaign.

During the first 15 minutes of the game the Freshmen played ragged ball probably largely because Coach "Poley" Guydar has had less than a week in which to work up his team. In the second quarter they began passing more accurately and kept most of the play in Governor Dummer territory.

The third quarter saw the Yardling forwards missing shot after shot at the prep school goal mouth, but they finally scored with two minutes to go in the period when Francis Chen, at the center forward position, tapped in a pass from his right wing. The fourth period was a replay of the third this time with Pete Morgan scoring for the Crimson just as the clock ran out.

Pro At Varsity Practice

Varsity Practice, which was hold on the field next to the Freshman game, was notable mainly because a little Glasgow Scotsman named Hugh Sutherland, now studying at the Business School, dropped in for a workout. Sutherland, whom Coach MacDonald says is good enough to play international ball, ran rigs around the Varsity defense and in general lived up to his reputation.
