Crimson Harriers Conquered By Dartmouth Squad, 19-41

In spite of a 19 to 41 defeat at the hands of Dartmouth yesterday afternoon, Jaakko Mikkola, cross-country coach, was pleased with the times recorded by his Varsity runners. ?Boy, they ran well," he commented enthusiastically. "Every man cut half a minute off his best time."

Jack Hanley of the Green ran true to form, crossing the finish of the four-mile course in 22:22 with two of his team-mates following closely in a dead heat. First Crimson harrier to score was Huna Rosenfeld, and Frank Gurley breasted the tape 18 seconds later.

Freshmen Also Beaten

In their initial race the Yardlings faced stiff opposition, but came out slightly better than the Varsity with a 21 to 35 loss. Dartmouth's R. F. Anderson led the pack in the three-mile junior circuit to record a time of 17:28. Bill Baker, Al Redfield and Joe Leeming were the first three Crimson runners to finish.

Positions in the Varsity classification were 1-2-3-6-7 for the Indians and 4-5-9-11-12 for the College. Though Hanley and his squad were strong, their best time was more than a minute over the 21:18.8 set by Bob Black of the Rhode Island Rams last week.

With a final remark on yesterday's effort that "You can't ask any better than the improvement shown today," Jaakko said that he was hopeful about the pay-off meet with Yale and Princeton next Saturday.
