HDC to Stage Shaw Premiere October 31 For Invited Audience

The American premiere of George Bernard Shaw's "In Good King Charles' Golden Days" is scheduled for Thursday afternoon, October 31, when members of the Harvard Dramatic Club will read the bearded bard's seven-year-old play to an invited audience.

The play, which has been staged only once, at the Malvern Festival in England, will be the first in a series of Dramatic Club readings intended partly to stimulate creative effort among budding dramatists by offering original student manuscripts and partly to stimulate audience criticism of readings of plays by established playwrights.

Prospective authors may see William West '49, HDC director and formerly of the Pasadena, California, Play house, at Winthrop House.

Invitations to the Shaw premiere will be reserved for subscribers to the Club's production of "Adam the Creator." Those interested in attending may make arrangements at HDC headquarters at 13 Holyoke Street.

Performers for the October 31 staging have been signed and are in rehearsal.
