Seeking its first win of the season after a 21 to 7 drubbing at the hands of Andover last week, Coach Henry Lamar's Freshman football squad has scrimmaged nightly under lights from atop Soldiers' Field Stadium in preparation for what promised to be a grueling contest with Holy Cross' Jayvee eleven this afternoon at two o'clock on the first practice field. Yesterday, the Yardling B team was downed by Roxbury Latin, 14 to 7.
Last week's loss was attributed by Lamar to lack of organization and early injuries. At half-time, Don Trimble, Jim Rossiter, and Will Crompton, first three left halfbacks, and Harry Moffie and Frank Lionette, fullbacks, were all out of the game with injuries.
Most improved men during this week's intensive practice sessions are Al Stone, whose sterling defensive play at tackle has moved him from D to B team, and Andy Cooper, now giving Jim Merkle a fight for the starting nod at fullback.
Pre-game lineup: Armando Mazzoni, le; Charlie Bradley or Bob Maders, lt; Dick Guidera, lg; Larry Ward, c; Bob Kelly, rg; Howie Reed, rt; Bob Forsyth, re; Jim Kenary, qb; Don Trimble or Will Crompton, lhb; Don Marangiello, rhb; and Jim Merkie or Andy Cooper, fb.
