Harlow Calls 'Fourth Team' Report Untrue, Scrimmages 'A' Team and Junior Varsity

Whoever dreamed up the Associated Press dispatch emanating from New London Tuesday that "Harvard's third and fourth teams are being groomed for the Coast Guard game," should have been at Soldiers Field yesterday.

Coach Dick Harlow, stating that "we have as much respect for the Coast Guard as for any team we've faced--or will face--all season long," sent almost every member of his probable starting lineup Saturday through a rugged scrimmage against the Jayvees, and gave every indication that preparations for the unbeaten Coasties will be as intense as any pre-game workouts of the season.

"A" Team Rolls In High Gear

If such operatives as Pete Petrillo, Tom Gannon, Vince Moravec and Leo Flynn in the backfield, and Walt Coulsen, John Fiorentino, Eddie Davis, Howle Houston, Nick Rodis, and Chuck Glynn are on Harlow's third and fourth stringers, the Crimson has been hiding some fairly good ball players.

All these first-team members were in the contact session yesterday, and the "A" team was moving in high gear. Vince Moravec was bucking in vicious fashion, and Chip Gannon and Leo Flynn also drew praise for their running. On the line, Harlow was especially pleased with Rodis, who is coming along in excellent shape.

Glynn Will Start

Glynn will be the Crimson's starting center against Coast Guard, since Jack Fisher, who played the best football of his career against Princeton, suffered a body injury that will sideline him for at least a week. Whether he will be ready for Holy Cross is not yet known.

The only probable starters against the New London invaders who did not participate in yesterday's scrimmage were Henry Geothals and Emil Drvaric, but both players will be fit for action on Saturday.

Coasties Boast Fine Passer

Part of the reason Harlow is not complacent about the Coast Guard is a 17-year-old passed named Sid Vaughn who will be in the Stadium on Saturday, and the Varsity spent a goodly portion of yesterday's practice on pass defense. Pass offense, defense against Coast Guard "T" formation plays, and signal drill were also on the docket.

A new injury also cropped up yesterday when it was disclosed that George Boston, "B" team tailback, sustained a leg ailment in Tuesday's scrimmage and will be out for at least a week.

The only definite change in this week's starting lineup for the Varsity will be Glynn at center, although Ned Dewey, fully healed, may supplant either Davis or Houston at one of the tackles.
