Billionaire Investor Gerald Chan Under Scrutiny for Neglect of Historic Harvard Square Theater
It was a comparatively easy day yesterday for the Varsity players who saw most action against Connecticut on Saturday. After viewing the movies of the Husky game, the "A" and "B" elevens ran through a light signal drill and called it an afternoon.
But the red-jersey holders who sat most of Saturday's struggle out ran through more than an hour of rugged contact work in a heavy drizzle against Coach Chief Boston's Jayvee squad. The Crimson coaching staff expressed satisfaction with the results of the scrimmage.
Study of the movies of the first Varsity game gave the coaches a new perspective on several of the players. Especially noted was the work of George Hauptfuhrer, who is now decidedly in the running for John Fiorentino's job at right end, and that of Bob Drennon, who is right behind Nick Rodie at left guard.
Squad in Good Shape
Aside from the injury suffered by tackle Ned Dewey, who has been shelved for at least a week, the Varsity came away from its first engagement in good shape. Guard Jim Feinberg was bumped, but he is expected to be ready against Tufts this Saturday, and the rest of Saturday's squad should be fit, barring accidents this week, for the next Crimson contest.
Emil Drvaric, first-string guard who spent Saturday in uniform, but saw no action, has been stamped with the seal of medical approval, and ran with the "A" team in its drill yesterday. He will definitely play against Tufts. Another of the men on the doctor's list, Howie Houston, a promising Freshman tackle, ran through signals yesterday.
And to complete the picture, Pete Garland, rangy end who left the squad a few weeks ago because of his restrictive Archy Sci schedule, returned to practice and is again a full-fledged member of the squad.
Two Scrimmages Expected
If things go right this week, the coaches intend to hold at least two scrimmages before the Tufts game. It was a lack of contact work the week before the Connecticut affair, caused by numerous minor injuries to key players in earlier contact sessions, that is generally believed to be the cause of the Varsity's occasional ragged play against the Huskies.
The "C" team's scrimmage against the Jayvees was a hell-bent-for-leather affair which featured good ball-handling, in view of the sloppy weather, on the part of all the "C" team backs. Players who scrimmaged against the Junior Varsity were as follows:
Felt, le; Markham, lt; Draper, lg; Grady and Gardiner, c; Stensrud, rg; Middendorf, rt; Kennedy, re; Tennant, qb; Lazzaro, rhb; Noonan, lhb; and Shafer and Crotty, fb.
