Off to a slow start due to last week's intermittent rains, the Freshman and NROTC baseball leagues have racked up only one official contest apiece. Last Tuesday Company One's Gray shut out the Company Three nine 6 to 0 in a one sided five-inning battle, while on the previous Thursday in a Fresh inter-House contest Smith rolled over Standish 5 to 3 behind the able pitching of Hutchins. Freshman softball has been irregular due to a light turnout.
Results of three Navy softball games were in at press time. Companies One and Three are setting the sandlot pace, each having bagged its opener. Company Three downed Company Two, 8 to 0, in a game climaxed by Phillip's home run in the top of the fourth frame. Company One eked out a victory over Company Four 7 to 4 in a game marked by the evenness of the hitting. To round out the story Company Four overcame Company Two last Tuesday, the able pitching of Hutchinson and Told holding each other's teams to only one hit apiece. Hutchinson, however, had better support in the field.
Intramural lacrosse is also under way, with four teams organized and their captains already elected. Grady's squad this week downed Woods' aggregation 3 to 1, Kennedy and handy scoring for the victors, and Woods putting in the lone loser's tally. Arias, squad blanked Vilushis' men 2 to 0, with Arias and Grey pushing through the scores.
