With less than six months elapsed since his rushed visit to France and England, William Yandell Elliott, professor of Government, has been added to President Truman's special commission to investigate conditions in the Philippines.
Professor Elliott has been serving for several years in Washington with the WPB as vice-chairman in charge of civilian requirements until his appointment Saturday to the commission. His duties have included mainly the investigation of civilian food, travel, and shelter requirements.
His new post was opened when C. H. Matthiessen, part time consultant of WPB officials, announced that as he had not been a permanent advisor since January, 1944, he was no longer familiar with the agency's policy. A. C. C. Hill, Jr., deputy vice-chairman since 1943, has been named acting director to fill in for Professor Elliott.
