House softball will replace the waning basketball tournament next week with initial practice sessions scheduled to get under way Monday, assistant director of Athletics Adolph W. Samborski revealed yesterday.
Swinging into the final week of play yesterday, a rugged NROTC 3B outfit-paced by Jack Clark topped ROTC 3A, 46 to 43 and ROTC 1-2 squeezed past Company A, 23 to 22. Supplemented by an influx of Varsity hoopmen, the present tourney has offered plenty of polished basketball, but in general has fallen short of previous league races for unity and competitive spirit. This is borne out by numerous forfeits and postponed games.
Originally slated to wind up today, the spring tournament will be prolonged until Thursday as a result of replay postponements. This afternoon Lowell and Adams are expected to spill blood in their grudge battle and Standish will be gunning to clinch the title by defeating Company C.
Tomorrow's program includes tilts between Company C and Company B, Company A and Standish, and ROTC 3B and Lowell. Final game of the tournament is scheduled for Thursday between ROTC 3B and Company B, and after that it will be blue skies, and "Play Ball!"
