Crimson Varsity and Jayvee crews will compete in two spring triangular regattas, now scheduled for Saturday, April 28, and the following Saturday, May 5, it was announced yesterday by Carroll F. Getchell, director of the H.A.A.
Sponsored by M.I.T., both races are scheduled to be run off on the Charles River over an as yet undecided course. The April event will have Navy in addition to M.I.T. and Harvard, and Cornell will be the third team in the second meet.
Will Shift to Newell
"Voluntary rowing on the machines is continuing at Weld Boat Club during exam period," reports coach Bert Haines, "and a formal meeting of all crewmen will be called immediately after the coming vacation. Practice will shift into the tanks at Newell Boat House at that point and will continue until the ice is out of the Charles."
At Annapolis, Navy crews are currently rounding into top shape after a winter of rigorous indoor practice and, more recently, workouts on the ice-free Severn.
Other Spring Sports
In addition to crew, the list of informal Crimson teams that will enter intercollegiate competition this spring includes baseball, track, tennis, and lacrosse. Both baseball and track practice sessions are expected to be held indoors as soon as the spring term gets under way. In accordance with the wartime H.A.A. ruling, the 50-mile traveling radius will be observed as usual in all athletics.
It is uncertain whether informal spring teams will be able to continue activities during the summer months under the present revised academic schedule.
