COWEN NAMED LEADER FOR '45

Meeting in an unusual session late Tuesday afternoon, the lettermen of the 1945 football squad elected Bob Cowen as honorary captain of the season past. Cowen, who is a member of the NROTC and halls from Waban, had started every game at fullback this fall.

The choice of Cowen by his teammates added a little more mystery to a situation that had been clouded all season. While guard Frank LeBart had served as acting captain of all the 1945 contests, Coach Harlow chose Tom Tennant, first string quarterback, to represent the team at the Boston sportswriters' luncheon.

Cowen, now definitely captain-elect, comes from a family of Harvard football players. His father, Rawson Cowen, Sir., made the team in 1915; his brother Tom played in the backfield of the 1942 squad, last Crimson aggregation to meet Yale until this year's eleven.

Lettermen who voted for captain were: Bill McDaniel, Bob Kennedy, Don Swegan, Paul Champion, Dave Mackintosh, Lou DiLuzio, Bill Fisher, John Coan, Howie Foster, Chester Pierce, Ed Dewey, Frank LeBart, Mal Allen, Bob Faber, John Grady, Paul O'Leary, Charlie Roche, Bill Jackson, Peter Harwood, Ken O'Donnell, Herb Fritts, Marvin Jenkins, Bill Mielke, Hal Miller, Cowen, Tom Tennant, jack McDonald, and Manager Bob Palmer.
