In order to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the birth of Gabriel Faure, the Department to Music is sponsoring a series of five concerts, beginning tonight and extending to Friday evening.
Nadia Boulanger, former pupil of the French composer, has directed the festival, which will feature Faure's later and least-known works. Miss Boulanger was the teacher of Aaron Copland, Roy Harris, and Walter H. Piston, Jr. '24, professor of Music.
In addition to participation by members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and eminent solo artists, the Harvard Glee Club and Radcliffe Choral Society, under the leadership of G. Wallace Wood-worth '24, will give a concert performance of "Penelope," Friday evening. This constitutes the first complete rendition of the opera in this country.
Tonight's concert will be held in Memorial Church at 8:15 o'clock. Paine Hall, at 4:30 o'clock, will be the scene of the Wednesday afternoon program. The remaining performances will be given in the evening at Sanders Theatre. There is no admission charge, and tickets will not be required. Doors will open one half hour before starting time.
