Dudley Will Field Commuter Eleven; Eliot Overpowers Aggressive Adams

Navy Pressed in 18-8 Win; Kirkland and Winthrop Tie

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Eliot's big, competent football team ran into considerably more trouble than it had expected yesterday, but it still had enough power to beat a scrappy Adams eleven, 18 to 8: Hy Brodgen and Herb Eckenrath scored in the first half to offset and Adams safety, and John Boyce went over for the Navy in the third period.

But the big score was Harry Booth's buck in the last quarter for the first touchdown to be scored against the sailors this year. It came on the heels of a long pass from Dewey Archambeault of Frank Girard. But the Gold Coasters have cause to be happy in defeat; they have showed the intramural league that Eliot can be stopped and scored on.

On Tuesday, Winthrop and Kirkland concluded the first half of the schedule by battling to a 6 to 6 tie. The Puritans tallied when George Minot snared a Kirkland pass in the second period and went over. But Kirkland came back to dominate the second half and drive to the two foot line only to be stopped. They then broke through to block Winthrop's punt and tie the score.

Kirkland continued to control the ball for the rest of the half, but, despite the efforts of Tom Lynch, they were balked by the stubborn Puritan line bulwarked by Tackle Ronald Garvey.

As the second half of the intramural season opens, local deposters agree that the Eliot eleven has a virtual stranglehold on the championship; but this afternoon will mark the debut of Dudley's commuters, rumored to be a possible dark horse contender, against Kirkland. The new eleven may provide the sailors with more competition than they have had to date.
