Crimson Is Ready For Tufts Contest

Speed workouts combined with long riverbank jaunts are the order this week as Jaako Mikkola whips his 1944 Crimson cross country team into shape for the important dual meets with Tufts and M.I.T. on September 30 and October 7.

For next Saturday's encounter with Tufts, wartime arch-rival, Mikkola will have the same outfit that notched the opening win from Worcester Tech, 26-31, on September 16. Captain Mark Tuttle, who ran three miles over the rocky Handicap Course in that race after losing his right shoe-spikes, returned to action last week.

Tuttle's Foot Bruised

Although his right foot was pretty badly bruised at the finish, Tuttle said that it gave him more pleasure to come in fourth and have his team win than to finish first and have the team lose the meet. The smooth-striding NROTC man is the brother of Pen Tuttle, who captained Mikkola's undefeated 1939 harriers.

In a two-mile time trial last Friday, Wayne Homans injured his ankle, but will probably start against Tufts.
