Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
Despite the absence of their number one man, Don Willner, Coach Arthur Douropulos' Varsity tennis team racked up another victory Saturday, defeating a favored M.I.T. outfit, 6 to 3, on the Business School courts.
This victory, which toppled Tech from the undefeated ranks, was the Crimson's fourth as against one setback. Sweeping all three of the doubles contests, the Crimson dissolved a 3-all tie in the singles to sew up the match.
In the singles matches, Bob Ross, playing number one for Harvard, lost to Tech's Gordon Chun, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3, while Moe Levin of the Crimson trounced Tom Henson, 6-2, 6-2. Jack Hugus of M.I.T. defeated Milt Stearns, 6-3, 6-3, and Crimson man Bob Rayle lost to Bruce Mayer, 6-2, 6-0. Tow Ellis and Bill Mayleas of Harvard evened up the singles by defeating Roy Haddox and Tom Cummings, 6-1, 6-2, and 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, respectively.
The doubles matches provided the margin of victory for Harvard, as Levin and Stearns defeated Henson and Mayer, 7-5, 6-4, Ross and Rayle took Chun and Hugus, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, and Mayleas and Frank Rinaldi shaded Haddox and Cummings.
