8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
More than 155 couples swayed to the mellow music of Ruby Newman and his orchestra Saturday night at the Lowell House summer informal dance. Stags were scarce at this initial major all-College dance of the summer semester.
Under the direction of co-chairmen David D. Bidwell '47 and Frederick P. Murphy '47 the Lowell House Dance Committee arranged a subtle lighting scheme that turned the Bellboys' dining hall into an ideal dance floor. Ample refreshments were also provided for the dancers, who included men from the V-12 and NROTC units, as well as civilians and various faculty members.
Patrons of the dance were Elliott Perkins '23, lecturer in History and Master of Lowell House, and Mrs. Perkins; and Lieutenant Commander Edmund H. Barry, head of the Harvard V-12 unit, and Mrs. Barry.
Rhumbas, Sambas, and jitterbug numbers were interspersed by Newman among the more popular fox trots, to provide a variety of dance music.
