Kiddies Start New Fashion; Short Pants Appear in Yard

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

With only 750 civilian undergraduates in the University, the smallest number in 69 years, we were forced to stop in the Yard the other day to take account of what was going on and revise some of our ideas about civilian undergraduates. We had thought that this group was composed of the halt, the lame and the blind, plus a handful of others whose draft boards had been a trifle lenient.

We have found, however, several who are sound in mind and body and who yet have no fear of draft boards. We saw them wearing short pants on the way to classes the other day. They were probably ex-quiz kids. They couldn't have been trying to keep cool for one were a coat, stiff collar and bow tie. We hesitated to question them on this oddity for they seemed so confident, even in this garb. Nevertheless, we feel sure that they will become of age to wear knickerbockers by next fall.
