Kiosk Will Remain Intact, Buses to Stop Near Curb

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Fate of the much-discussed "pillbox" kiosk in Harvard Square will be decided at a meeting between Cambridge police and Boston El officials next Tuesday, according to word received yesterday from the transit department at Police headquarters.

Always a sore spot in the minds of traffic officials, the kiosk was the subject of much debate recently, when a runaway bus rammed into the "pillbox" crushing two persons to death and leaving a path of injured in its wake.

Discussion Proposed

Proposed for discussion at the meeting, next Tuesday is the suggestion, that passengers continue to use the kiosk for entrance to the subway, but that bus lines stop at some other location in the Square. A general re-routing of various traffic in and around the square will also come up for discussion.

The buses which will travel through the square without turning around the kiosk and which will unload and load at sidewalk platforms instead of at the center "pillbox" apron, are the Belmont, Arlington, Kendall Square, and Allston Square lines. New no parking sones in the square may be introduced as part of the project to relieve congested traffic conditions."
